Sean was intrigued by one of the north facing windows in the ‘Nimrod Hut’. Shackleton himself must have spent many hours looking out through this window thinking and planning for the challenges that lay ahead. Sir Edmond Hillary spoke of the time he entered the hut for the first time and was welcomed by Shackleton, hence the inspiration for the painting and the ghost of Shackleton reflected in the window.
